Chilla FRH:- Chilla forest rest house is situated in the Chilla Tourism Zone which is the main tourism zone of Rajaji Tiger Reserve. It is easy to access from Haridwar. Just 5 km from Har-ki-pauri Haridwar and 8km from Haridwar railway station. It is a double story FRH built in 1883. It has 2 rooms, a drawing –cum- dining room on the ground floor and the 2 rooms on the first floor. Beside the FRH 2rooms and a drawing cum dining room and a kitchen are also available at Chilla annexe. Electricity and water are available round the clock.
Chilla Zoe provides the Jeep safaris. A Visit to Ganga Chaur Machan near the FRH provides a good opportunity for bird watching. You can also visit the grave of Arundhathi (female elephant) who served the forest department for over 27 years. She died in October 2007.
Meethawali FRH:- it was renovated in 2004, it’s a VIP Forest rest house. Its access is limited since it falls in the core zone. It’s a solar powered FRH with limited water. There is no water supply.
Motichur FRH:- it is situated in Motichur Tourism zone and it was built in 1934, and just approx 6 km from Har ki pauri Haridwar and located on the Haridwar – Dehradun Highway NH58. The bungalow has two rooms with a drawing cum dining room. The lawns and the water hole near the FRH play host to large no. of herbivores.
Kunnao FRH:- it is easily approachable from Rishikesh. Visitors may also access the fro Chilla zone through a 14 km motor road along the Shakti Nahar, also called the chilla
This FRH is situated in Beribara Zone and easily approached from Ranipur Entry Gate. It was built in 1886 and has well-maintained rooms. There is no electricity but solar-powered lamps. Jungle Safari from Ranipur zone to Beribara and back offers a unique landscape and great wildlife sighting experience. In this zone the lucky ones can spot more than 5 leopards in a single safari trip!
The Ranipur FRH in the Ranipur Tourism zone is just 9 km from Haridwar town. The big bungalow-styled FRH with a tin roof is located adjacent to an elevation. It was built in 1835 and has 2 rooms with a veranda and dining room. The Machan near the FRH offers a bird’s eye view to the jungle and wild animals grazing in the grassland. Jeep Safari on Ranipur zone till to the Beribara FRH is very rewarding for wildlife sighting.
This beautiful FRH is 25 km from Dehradun. It is approachable from Chillawali gate at Mohand. Mohand is located at Dehradun-Delhi NH72. The FRH was built in 1858. There is no electricity but solar-powered lamps are available here.
This is in the core zone of the Rajaji Tiger Reserve and access is restricted to visitors. It is connected by the canning road from Phandowala FRH. This FRH was built in 1891..
This FRH in the Asaori Tourism Zone is a heritage bungalow set amidst sal forest. Built by the British in 1886 on the bank of Suswa river, it is located 10 km from Dehradun on Dehradun-Delhi NH 72A.
All FRH are equipped with very basic facilities. It is best to carry your own toiletries, torches, sleeping bag, water bottles and essential medicines. Most importantly carry your own binoculars along with a guide book. There are no petrol pumps inside the park. Winters are chilly especially at night so pack accordingly. Mobile networks are not available in most of the FRH.
Please note that you should also carry your own food and grocery. Kitchen and utensils are available at all FRH.
